Pinhole photography

On sunday I tryed to make my first attempt at pinhole photography. It wasn't very succesfull. I tryed with a carton of milk, cutting it and punching a small hole in the center. But the first problem I had, was that the hole wasn't sharp. Also I should have made the hole smaller, because the smaller the hole, the sharper the image

You can see it in this picture.

Pinhole

If you are looking for information related to pinhole photography a good place to find It is in Wikipedia following this link.
It was an interesting practice, but I think It wasn't perfect because the hole wasn't sharp. Next time I'll try with the cover of the camera body. I think it's going to create a better effect.
Anyway, here are some of the pictures I took. I hope you like them.

White balance & Tungsten

Last week I talked about WB and a bit about Tungsten. Today I am going to share with you a photo I took the other day, from the balcony of my house.

Don't take any notice of the model it's me suffering with bad flu... and the photo witch it's not very good but It demostrate the effect I want to show you.

If you look at the photo, every things lit by sun is blue, but not my face, because it's lit by a flash with a Convert to Orange (CTO) filter. When you set the WB to tungsten you are saying light it's orange. That means white light becomes blue, and if you light something with orange light it will have true colours.

To put filters in the flash I made a gadget out of cardboard.
You can see it in this two pictures.

White balance

Today I am going to talk about white balance.
Lot of people always use the camera with white balance set to "auto", and this is not the best option.
First at all, what is WB?
color balance is the global adjustment of the intensities of the colors (typically red, green, and blue primary colors). An important goal of this adjustment is to render specific colors – particularly neutral colors – correctly;
Wikipedia
Why it is necessary to set white balance? Because different lights have different colors. For example, the incandescent lights (normal light bulb) are orange, or fluorescent it’s green!. With WB we can set photography colors to the correct colors, regardless of the lighting color.
Because of that, normally it’s not a good idea to mix different kinds of lights in the same photo. (We have just one WB).
Perhaps you have seen a photographer take a picture of a grey sheet. That’s because another option is to set the white balance later. If you shoot on RAW format, camera is not going to apply any WB to the picture and you will be able to do it later. With that grey sheet, programs like Photoshop, can compare the grey with a real grey in the picture and identify the color of the lights.
WB has a lot of creative possibilities. Perhaps you don’t want true color - perhaps you are looking for something different. Have you seen pictures with a blue background? This is very easy to do. You just have to set WB to tungsten and sun light will look blue! If you are lighting your subject with an orange light (like a bulb light or a flash with a CTO gel) the subject will be in genuine colors).

Langa de Duero

Last week-end, I went to Langa de Duero. Langa del Duero is a small village in Spain, in a region well-known for their good wines (Ribera del Duero). I went there to pick grapes (aka Vendímia) in a traditional way.
It was very funny and interesting. No tractors, no machines just a donkey and a Roman press. Here are some pictures I toke. I hope you like them.

Day 1 hour 0

HI EVERYBODY !!! BODYYY oddyyy dyyyy

Oppss.. the room is almost empty :-s, Hi Dad and Mum…!!!, You neither??? Ouchh!!

I guess the first thing to say about a blog, is what is it about. This blog it’s going to be about PHOTOGRAPHY!, yeeeeeess.. I knowwwww, there are a lot of blogs about photography. What is different about this? For me it’s different because I am writing it. For you I am not sure, perhaps, because I am not a pro, but I am very interested in photography. We can start a way together to improve our photography skills.

In the worst scenario (nobody is interested in what I have to say…), this is going to be a repository for the techniques I know, or I am playing with.

I like a lot of comments!! Please, feel free to write something, the idea it’s to learn together. If nobody comments, it’s going to be more boring.

The most important thing, WELCOME TO YOUR HOUSE!
